NEW BORN SESSION INFORMATION

When is the best time for a Newborn session?

The best time to photograph a newborn baby is when they are under two weeks of age. After two weeks babies are a little harder to settle and things like colic and baby acne can start to flare up.

Where does the session takes place?

Sessions take place at the studio in my house in Stellenbosch, preferably in the mornings from 9:30. Babies are usually calmer and more content in the mornings, which makes them easier to handle.

How long will the session take?

Newborn sessions can take up to 3 or 4 hours (or even longer, depending on the baby), allowing enough time for feeding and comforting. Safety in the studio is of utmost importance!

We do not rush our babies and mothers. It takes time to safely “pose” a baby.

We need the baby to sleep for most of the session to enable me to capture that beautiful sleepy and squishy newborn images. Please understand that babies are unpredictable and although I will try my utmost to capture enough and even more images, all depends on the baby. Sometimes we will be finished in under two hours and sometimes it can take up to an hour or even more, to get baby to sleep and to even start with the session. Very, very rarely we will have to reschedule. A little wakefulness isn’t a problem though. Sounds difficult? No, most of the babies sleep through the whole session and are blissfully unaware of what’s going on around them.

When to book?

As soon as your due date become known, you can  contact me and we reserve the date on my calendar. Once baby is born you contact me and we finalise a date between 7 and 10 days later.

Please do not wait until your baby is born before you make a booking. I only take a limited amount of babies in a week which can fill up quite quickly. I have to emphasise again, make the appointment when your due date becomes known.

Pre-session consultation

When you book a photo session, I will contact you for a pre-session consultation date. The purpose of the consultation is to fuse your expectations and style with my abilities to create images that you will love and cherish.

Depending on where you live, the consultation will take place on the phone or over a cup of coffee at my studio in Stellenbosch. You will also receive pre-session instructions via e-mail.

Session styling

Every photographer has a unique style. My style is organic, neutral, pastel, soft, simplistic, full of texture and also funky at times. My images are simple, almost minimalistic, rather than packed with detail that can be quite distracting on an image. I believe that simplicity is the way to keep the focus on the baby and the way to create timeless and stylish images.
